| MERMAID COTTAGE
From the cobbled street, you enter into a light sitting room with an open fire ready to light and a good supply of logs/coal. Games, TV/video, music system and writing desk can all be found in here. There are 2 single chairs and a large sofa. The cottage has a seaside feel, decorated predominantly in blue and white. This theme leads on from the sitting room through into a cosy dining room with a table and 4 chairs and then into a delightful and well-equipped kitchen with fridge , oven, microwave and washing machine/tumble dryer. A host of china and cooking accessories can be located within the cupboards. From the kitchen is a shingled courtyard full of scented aromatic plants that can be enjoyed from a bench which catches the sun throughout the day. On the first floor is the double bedroom with a square bay window to the front, overlooking Mermaid Street. A wrought iron bedstead, fireplace (not in use), window seat and double wardrobes enhance the room. Also found on the first floor is the bathroom with bath and integrated shower. The second floor accommodates 2 twin beds in the eaves of the house and, upon request, can also be fitted with a trundle bed or travel cot. Child safety gates are fixed on each level of the house, as are fire alarms. |
| RYE |
| Rye itself is a bustling market town within the heart of 1066 Country and is renowned for its historical associations and fine period architecture, including Lamb House (once the home of the American novelist, Henry James, and now in National Trust ownership). The golden beaches of Camber Sands are just 1 mile away, with numerous other nearby National Trust houses and gardens (including the world famous Vita Sackville-West's Sissinghurst Garden and Bodiam Castle) and golf courses nearby. Rye Harbour and its wildlife sanctuary is just 1 mile from Mermaid Cottage and offers easy cycle paths, boating, fishing trips, dingy and wind surfing hire or just maybe the gentler pace is preferred for the keen walker and bird watcher.
For the shopper, Rye offers a refreshing selection of antiques, paintings, glassware, pine, gift and pottery as well as the open market on a Thursday. The green grocers, bakers and butchers ensure food can be easily purchased if the wide selection of cafes, bistros, restaurants and public houses fail to tempt you. Rye's ancient-stone fortress and cobble streets, fine restaurants, shops and ideal location make it an absolute delight and must to visit. To the west of Rye is the historic town of Hastings with its seafront and promenade, whilst inland are the towns of Battle with its Abbey, Tenterden with its beautiful steam railway line and vineyard. Further afield is the spa town of Royal Tunbridge Wells and Canterbury with its glorious cathedral. |
